Schofield Ford Covered Bridge
Constructed of hemlock and oak, Schofield Ford was originally built in 1873. Formerly known as Twining Ford Bridge, it is located in Tyler State Park , near Newtown, where it crosses the Neshaminy Creek. The original bridge burned in 1991. The reconstruction is 170 feet long, the longest in Bucks County. It is 17 feet wide and has a height limit of 13 feet. It is closed to vehicular traffic. The Town truss is reinforced by an angular board structure resembling a Burr truss. It is long for a Town truss bridge and has two spans, supported in the middle by a stone pier reinforced with concrete. It has small, diamond-shaped windows.
