Van Sant Covered Bridge
Built in 1875, this bridge along Covered Bridge Road crosses the Pidcock Creek in Solebury Township, Bucks County. It is 86 feet long, 15 feet wide, has a height limit of 12 feet-6 inches and a weight limit of 7 tons. It is not far from Bowman’s Hill Tower and Bowman's Hill Wild Flower Preserve. It also has been known as Beaver Dam Bridge. It was built by G. Arndt and P. S. Naylor and is of the Town truss design. The bridge has a reputation of being haunted. Some believe the spirit is that of a young woman who threw herself and her child into the water near the bridge. Others believe the haunting spirit is male, possibly a highwayman who was hung at the bridge.
